I no longer buy brown sugar at the grocery store. Homemade brown sugar only requires two ingredients and takes only about a minute to complete.

It’s simple to do, and if you make only what you need, you don’t have to worry about it drying out on you.
All you need is some molasses and granulated white sugar.
Plain old molasses like Grandma’s Molasses that you can find on the baking aisle at any grocery store is what you’re looking for (not blackstrap molasses).

Making Your Brown Sugar
Below you’ll find the proper proportions to make your brown sugar.
Color | Molasses | White Sugar |
Light Brown Sugar | 1 tbs. | 1 cup |
Dark Brown Sugar | 2 tbs. | 1 cup |
Thoroughly mix it all together with a fork and put it into an airtight container for storage.
That’s it. No need to end up with dried-out, rock-hard, store-bought brown sugar in the back of your pantry. Just make what you need when you need it.
